3 Reasons Why I Consider Linamnam As the Ultimate Filipino Foodie’s Guide

Foodie.

I first encountered that word when my co-worker in eTelecare Global Solutions called me as such.

It sounded good to me.

Wow! Foodie diay ko?

Well, even if people don’t or won’t call me a foodie, it doesn’t matter.

I’d still continue to eat whatever I want and whenever I want.

Just like the authors of Linamnam, we are all searching the proverbial Holy Grail of food.

After 3 years of traveling and eating, Chef Claude Tayag and Mary Ann Quioc finally compiled their delicious journey into a compact little book.

Just like Baktin Corporation, having a copy of Linamnam was an impulsive purchase.

The first edition sold a total of 16,500 copies!

Considering the phenomenal success of their first book, why did the authors write the book in the first place?

Is it to help foodies make a bucket list?

Is it to spur culinary tourism in the Philippines?

Is it to pave way for the present generation to rediscover the regional cuisine?

The answer to all these questions is a big YES!

As to why I purchase a copy of the book, I have 3 reasons for that.

1. Linamnam summarizes the must-try dishes in 9 regions.

I love books!

It’s like traveling without the need to pack your bags.

Same is true with Linamnam.

Just reading the description of each dishes and the experiences of the authors enables you to travel and taste the dishes that the region has to offer.

On top of that, the book also has a special section for a la carte and house specialties like:

  • pancit
  • longganisa
  • tamales
  • okoy/ukoy
  • bottled goodness (SPOILER ALERT: My favorite Montaño Sardines is part of this list.)

Is your mouth still not drooling?

 

2. Linamnam is direct to the point.

Claude Tayag and Mary Ann Quioc are honest with their reviews.

I like the fact that they mention their expectations, how the food really tasted when they got there, and how the place looks like.

In my opinion, they are giving out comments in a constructive way.

 

3. Linamnam is very handy.

Don’t ask me to measure the book with a ruler guys but I’ll give you an idea how big or small the book is.

Just imagine a one-half lengthwise high school pad paper with more than 300 pages.

If you are a frequent traveler, you’d find the book very handy because it doesn’t take too much space on your bag.
