Geeks On A Beach 2 All Set for Cebu

Cebu will play host to the second leg of Geeks On A Beach.

The convention will once more converge technology startups and experts in the ICT industry from the Philippines and all over the world.

GOAB debuted in Boracay September of last year and was considered a huge success.

One success story can be taken from Zipmatch.

The startup was funded because Zipmatch met their investors in the name of Khailee Ng (500 start ups) and Koichi Saito (IMJ Investments) during GOAB.

Cebu was chosen as the second venue for GOAB because it is considered as the fastest growing technology and commercial hub aside from Metro Manila.

Cebu is also rich in cultural heritage and home to some of the world’s best beach resorts, one of which is the Movenpick Resort and Spa in Mactan Island, the venue for GOAB 2.

GOAB 2 is all set on August 21 to 22.

It is organized by TechTalks.ph and the Department of Science and Technology – Information and Communications Office or DOST-ICTO, together with PRWorks Vis-Min, HappyGaraje, and Sym.ph.

SMART, Philippines’ leading provider of wireless service and IdeaSpace, the country’s largest privately-funded startup incubator are sponsors of GOAB 2 and were equally responsible for the success of the first GOAB.

Strategic interventions were offered by DOST-ICTO to promote the growth of ICT industry in various regions, including the inauguration of GOAB last year.

“We are very fortunate to have SMART backing us along with the government , seasoned entrepreneurs, businesses, and partners,” shared Tina Amper founder of Startup Weekend Cebu and GOAB.

SMART has been an active organizer and sponsor of events for technopreneurs and mobile app developers through their Smart Developer Network (SMART DevNet), their developer community program.

“It has been our commitment to spearhead and support events that would broaden the reach and influence of Philippine startups to more regions in the country,” enthused Earl Martin Valencia, president of IdeaSpace.

The organizers of GOAB 2 promises a much grander event.

They are also expecting attendance to surpass last year’s arrival.

“The attendance of these influential people will surely generate interest among technopreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs,” Amper said. “I don’t want to be very optimistic, but we will have more people participating this year. That’s for certain.”
